If you have just bought a block of land and require power or want to add another separate dwelling to your property you will require a new connection.
This can be very easy or slightly painful depending on what route you take. We prefer to take over the process from the start to save everyone involved time and effort.
The process:
- We ask the customer for their basic details such as name, phone number, email, address of property and postal address if different. What power you require eg single phase / three phase, <>100Amps.
After about 3-4 weeks depending on the job you will have power at your site up and running.
What we actually do to get to that stage is:
- We set up and account with an electricity retailer and get an NMI allocated to your property. Get the metering installation put on our account.
- Apply through the essential energy portal for a new connection.
- receive the connection offer.
- Install the underground or overhead cabling and switchboard. Hang and commission the smart meter.
- Fill out more paperwork online such as CCEW, NOSW, COC.
- Job is now complete
More painful process is:
- Customer applies for NMI through retailer 1-2weeks
- Customers electrician applies for new connection with essential energy once receiving NMI from customer 1-2 weeks possibly more
- electrician contacts level 2 electrician to do connection which could take 1-4 weeks depending on how busy they are and if the electrician hasn't made any mistakes with the connection application
- Level 2 does the connection - 1-2 days
- customer now applies for smart meter through retailer. 2-4 weeks.
- 3rd party subcontractor installs smart meter and power is ready.
- many phone calls and emails back and forth between the customer, electrician, level 2 electrician and essential energy throughout the process. Builder uses his Diesel generator for a month longer than needed, charges the customer more money or the whole job just gets delayed weeks or months and all parties involved lose out on lost time and money.
Note:
All new connections in rural classed properties are to be underground not overhead. Exceptions can sometimes be made.
